History
South Shore Oahu is robust with volcanic landmarks, natural ocean formations, world-class beaches and scenic drives. Diamond Head, created over 150,000 years ago, saddles the far end of
Waikiki Beach. At the eastern tip of Oahu is
Makapu'u Lookout, featuring the
Makapu'u Lighthouse, built in the early 1900s.
Halona Blowhole was formed by ancient lava tubes and sprays ocean water dozens of feet into the air.
Sandy Beach Park became popular in the mid-1900s but really caught on with body surfers in the 1970s.
