King Kalakaua was Hawaii’s last reigning King. Known as “The Merrie Monarch”, Kalakaua revived elements of Hawaiian culture which had nearly been forgotten. Queen Lydia Liliuokalani was the last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii and was Hawaii's only Queen Regent.
