People don’t typically come to Laniakea Beach, one of the most famous North Shore Beaches
, to swim. In fact, hundreds of people come to Laniakea Beach (Turtle Beach)
everyday with hopes of seeing green sea turtles! On any given day, you will likely find a turtle basking on the sand, turtles grazing on seaweed underwater, or turtles surfing the waves. The elusive Hawaiian monk seal even makes appearances from time to time at Laniakea Beach.
Although the water is rough and the beach is somewhat rocky, Laniakea is a great place to relax on the beach as you watch for turtles. If you’re looking for a great place to swim, check out nearby Sunset Beach
, Waimea Bay
, or Ehukai Beach.
The green turtle was listed under the Endangered Species Act on July 28, 1978. It is illegal to touch green sea turtles or approach the animals. Please be respectful.
