Located at the base of
Diamond Head Crater and a short distance from
Waikiki Beach, the
Diamond Head Lighthouse is a fully-functioning lighthouse, standing 55-feet high and 147-feet above sea level on the lower slopes of Diamond Head. The light from the
Diamond Head Lighthouse projects 18-miles out to sea!
History
The version of the lighthouse that is seen from the base of
Diamond Head Crater is actually the second
Diamond Head Lighthouse. The original was built in 1899, and the original Fresnel lens is still used by lighthouse #2. In 1917, the current lighthouse was built and has been in use ever since.
