Located at the base of Diamond Head Crater
and a short distance from Waikiki Beach
, the Diamond Head Lighthouse
is a fully-functioning lighthouse, standing 55-feet high and 147-feet above sea level on the lower slopes of Diamond Head. The light from the Diamond Head Lighthouse
projects 18-miles out to sea!
The version of the lighthouse that is seen from the base of Diamond Head Crater
is actually the second Diamond Head Lighthouse
. The original was built in 1899, and the original Fresnel lens is still used by lighthouse #2. In 1917, the current lighthouse was built and has been in use ever since.
