Things To Do On Oahu: This Week In Mele Mei

Hawaii’s Mele Mei Festival kicked off with a bang this past weekend. With a variety of events featuring local music and culture, the Mele Mei Festival is one of the best things to do on Oahu to experience the sounds of Hawaii. Last week we gave you an overview of the celebrations, but lets recap the weekend’s events and take a look at this past weekend’s exciting events. Na Hoku Hanohano (Hawaiian Grammy’s) All-Stars event hosted by the Hilton Hawaiian Village was an outdoor concert with local stars performing their favorite songs and all proceeds benefiting Charity Walk Hawaii. The “Go For Da Record: Hana Hou!” event lead by ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro had a great turnout but came up shy of beating the 1,547 members required to break the record for “World’s Largest Ukulele Ensemble”.  Better luck next year Jake, we’ll be rooting for you again!
