Hawaiian Airlines flight number 452 will depart Sydney at 9:20pm and arrive in Honolulu at 11:00am that same day (time zones can be confusing). The returning flight bound for Sidney from Honolulu is flight 451, which will depart at 12:40pm and arrive in Sydney the following day at 7:20pm.

These new flights will begin running April 6th and will continue until at least August 1st. They will depart on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The additional flights are a sign of Hawaii’s recovering tourist industry that is experiencing significant growth this Holliday season.

We encourage our Australian fans to take advantage of this new flight schedule and come discover what Hawaii is all about. We have lots of amazing attractions that you are sure to appreciate. With the new schedule, Hawaiian will be accommodating more than 19,000 seats worth of possible Hawaiian vacationers over the next four months. With Hawaiian airlines award winning service, this could very well be the best and most comfortable way to get you and yours from your big island to our smaller ones.

From one Islander to another, come and experience Hawaii.

Originally published on the Hawaii Blog

October has come and gone, and the waters of the Polynesian Cultural Center are starting to lose their haunted aura. The infamous Laie lady seems to have once again receded into the darkness of her Haunted Lagoon. She brings with her the Halloween festivities that for the past four weeks have made nights at the Polynesian Cultural Center quite spooky. The unfortunate apparition will have to wait until next year to emerge again and search for her missing son…

Aloha until next Halloween Laie Lady.

If you missed out on the Laie Lady and her Haunted Lagoon, don’t fret, there is still so much more that the Polynesian Cultural Center has to offer. The highly popular Hā–Breath of Life night show is showing no signs of losing its magic. It is already a few months into its second year at the Polynesian Cultural Center and is as popular as ever. The astounding canoe dance is another amazing performance that continues in spite of the Laie Lady’s departure from the (no longer) Haunted Lagoon. This impressive spectacle combines song and dance and is preformed atop floating canoes.

Additionally, the specific villages of the pacific perform as usual their respective specialties post-Halloween. You will find Siva (coconut shell dances), cooking presentations, and fire knife training, at the Samoan Village. You’ll be welcomed with a Powhiri (welcome ceremony) in Aotearoa’s Village, where Tititorea (stick game), Kiri Tuhi (Maori Art Tattoo Design) and more await. The Derua (Bamboo Drums) will sound your approach to Fiji, where you can get a temporary Fijian tattoo or play Vidividi (Fijian game). Later make your way to Hawaii’s own village, where Ulu Maika (Hawaiian Bowling), Konane (Native Checkers), and Hu (spinning top) are some of the hugely fun games that ought to grow your appetite for a poi sampling later. The island of Marquesas has an impressive mock pig hunt, and performance that demonstrates the cultural richness of this tiny nation. Hip shaking dancers of Tahiti are a real crowd pleaser at the Tahitian Village. They will also show you how to dig an underground oven so you can prepare your catch like a true Polynesian after you learn tautai (fishing) like an islander. Last of the Villages is Tonga, where the master of the drums efforts can be heard throughout the center. You will be trained like a real pacific warrior with a spear tossing demonstration that is sure to amaze you and yours.

PCC, Year-round Fun

As you can see there is a lot to do at the Polynesian Cultural Center. Even without the Laie lady’s haunting presence PCC is an exceptionally action packed attraction. From the beautiful traditionally inspired architecture across the site, to the absolutely mouth watering buffet spreads you will eat from, the Polynesian Cultural Center is an amazing cross between a theme park and a museum that is sure to please the whole family. Next time you are on the islands consider joining Discover Hawaii Tours as you explore the unmatched presentation of the Polynesian Cultural Center.

Originally published on the Hawaii Blog

One of the most scenic views on the entire island of Oahu, the Nu’uanu Pali Lookout is an absolute must on any Hawaiian Vacation. Tucked in the cliffs of the Ko’olau Mountain Range, pali is the Hawaiian word for cliffs. From the lookout, a panoramic view of Windward Oahu overlooks the towns of Kailua and Kaneohe. The Pali Highway (State Highway 61) connects Honolulu to windward Oahu.

Scenic View from above Pali Lookout

The Pali is famous for the strong trade winds that blow through the pass, seemingly at all times. Coupled with the tunnels of the highway, it forms a natural wind tunnel of sorts.

There are many legends and beliefs surrounding this fabled overpass and its surrounding mountains. Two large stones near the back of Nu’uanu valley are said to represent a pair of goddesses who were guardians of the passage. Travelers have been know to leave offerings of flowers or bark cloth to ensure a safe trip. Many parents have been known to bury the umbilical cords of newborns under the stones, as a protection against evil. It is also widely believed that pork should never be carried over Nu’uanu Pali. Many motorists have reported their cars mysteriously stopping and not starting again until the pork was removed from the car. This is the responsibility of Pele and her contest with Kamapua’a, a half man, half hog God that is forbidden from passing to her side of the island in his hog form.

The Nu’uanu Pali was also the site of the Battle of Nu’uanu, one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian History. During this battle, King Kamehameha I conquered the island of Oahu, bringing it under his rule. The battle took place in 1795 after Kamehameha conquered the islands of Maui and Molokai. Along with an army of 10,000 soldiers, Kamehameha forced the defenders of Nu’uanu Valley up the mountain and trapped more than 400 soldiers. The defenders were driven off the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below. When the first road was built over the mountain range, workers came across more than 800 skulls, believed to be the remains of the warriors that fell to their deaths during the battle.

School is out, baseball season is in full swing, backyard (or beach) bar-b-ques are frequent, and it’s time to plan the annual family vacation.
This year, why not plan a trip to paradise, and take in the history and beauty of the Hawaiian Islands? The weather is perfect, the ocean is pristine and crystal clear, you can never really run out of new things to experience, and hotels and flights are as affordable as they have been in recent years. With attractive hotel rates in Hawaii being lower than those of major mainland cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, and San Francisco, vacationing in Hawaii is becoming more and more wallet friendly.
The island of Oahu is home to many terrific places that are waiting for you to visit. Destinations such as Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, and the Polynesian Cultural Center are must see locations that offer plenty to do and see. You may also board a plane for a short flight to one of the outer islands. The Kilauea Volcano of Big Island and the Road to Hana on Maui are two of the possible choices that will allow you to get away from Honolulu for the day, and enjoy once in a lifetime experiences.
In visiting Hawaii, you will be greeted by friendly faces and a welcoming attitude that has been passed down through many generations. Everyone in Hawaii lives by the aloha spirit and we look forward to sharing our aloha spirit with you, so before booking a flight to Miami, New York, or San Francisco, consider a trip to Hawaii and the many wonderful features that paradise has.
