Maui Park to Reopen in July

The Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources has announced that the Kula State Forest reserve on Maui will reopen on July 15th. Closed since January 11th, this South Maui Park suffered significant damage due to storms with high winds.
Kula State Forest, located right next to Polipoli State Park on the slopes of Haleakala, has long been a haven for hiking, mountain biking and hunting. Although the area has historically not been one of the top things to do in Maui for visitors, locals on Maui consider the area to be a pristine sanctuary. The DLNR continues to remove trees and other debris from the park’s roadway. Polipoli State Park is famous for its Redwood trail, a longtime favorite thing to do in Maui for visitors who like to get off the beaten path. The trail is a hike through an actual Redwood forest, in Hawaii! Just like the Redwood forests in California, Polipoli State Park is a chilly place due to its elevation on Haleakala. Please note that this area is only accessible with four-wheel drive vehicles. A great alternative tour to take in Maui is the Road to Hana tour. Discover Hawaii Tours is the only tour company that offers Road to Hana tours that completely circle Haleakala, and is one of the best things to do in Maui!
