Maui Oceanfront Home Sets New Price Record

Makena, Maui, Hawaii, July 26 (DHN) – Nearly everyone on the planet dreams of owning an oceanfront home, especially one located in Maui. For Peter Thiel, a San Francisco entrepreneur and technology investor, he has turned a dream into reality with his purchase of an oceanfront home in Makena, Maui.
However, this wasn’t just any oceanfront home in Hawaii. This home was bought for a whopping $27 million! Due to the astronomical price tag of the Maui home, this piece of real estate news made headlines on The Wall Street Journal. The Wall Street Journal reported that this is purported to be the biggest deal for a single-family home in Maui County. Set on a 1.7 acre plot of Maui land located a stone’s throw from the ocean, the 4,500 square foot contemporary house was built in 1991. Featuring a pool and immaculately manicured grounds, this house is Hawaiian oceanfront perfection.

Makena is located in South Maui. Home to one of Hawaii’s most famous beaches, Big Beach, this beach is hugely popular among both locals and tourists. Right next to Big Beach is Little Beach, Maui’s most famous “clothing free” beach. The Makena area is also known as Wailea. With two luxurious resorts, the Grand Wailea and the Four Seasons Maui at Wailea, this area is home to lush golf courses and a variety of upscale restaurants. The area is also significant because of La Perouse Bay to the south of Makena. The bay is the site of Europe’s first explorer (Jean-Francois de Galaup, comte de La Perouse) setting foot on the island on the island of Maui. The buyer, Peter Thiel, is famous for co-founding PayPal and being an early investor in Facebook. The sellers of the house were Dan Huish, founder of Huish Detergents, and his wife Kim. The Huish’s bought the home back in 2006 for $19.2 million.
