Honolulu Fish Fry

Looking for a fun thing to do in Oahu this weekend? If you are going to be in Waikiki, head on down to Kuhio Beach Park for the Aloha Boardshop Honolulu Fish Fry 2011 presented by Oxbow. This unique contest at Queens surf break in Waikiki is different from most surf contests. Surfers, instead of riding their own surfboard, will instead draw a number and be given a board to ride during their heat by Aloha Boardshop. Aloha Boardshop enlisted the help of 19 of the top Hawaii shapers to handcraft a variety of traditional, modern and hybrid fish designs for the contest. Hawaii based shapers like Ben Aipa, Dennis Pang, Kerry Tokoro, Todd Pinder, Glenn Miyasaki and George Ku each contributed their own variation of the fish surfboard and donated the boards. The fish surfboard is generally created by Steve Lis, a surfboard designer from California who was living in Kauai at the time. A great thing to do in Oahu, the contest will take place on July 9th & 10th from 7:00am to 5:00pm. Are you not sure where Kuhio Beach Park is located in Waikiki? It is easy, just look for the statue of Duke Kahanamoku, Olympian and legendary surfer, which fronts Kuhio Beach in Waikiki.
