Hilo, Hawaii artist John D. Dawson to debut ‘bonsai’ USPS Postage Stamp

Hilo Hawaii artist J. Dawson has built a large portfolio of illustrations for United States Postal Service stamps. Over the past 12 years, Dawson has dedicated himself to a series of stamps focused on America’s endangered species environments, including Hawaiian Rainforests. For his newest postage stamp, Dawson has created a series of illustrations of Japanese bonsai plants. The new stamps will debut in 2012 and be sold as Forever stamps.Dawson, who was born and raised in San Diego, California, has lived with his wife, Kathleen, in Hilo for over twenty years. The Nature in America series is one of his proudest accomplishments along with a majority of the new art displayed in the recently renovated Kilauea Visitor Center here at Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park.
