About Hawaii Steel Guitar Festival
Benefiting the non-profit group, Arts Education for Children, the weekend festival features music, arts, crafts, food, and workshops, all in honor of the creator of the Hawaiian steel guitar, Joseph Kekuku, and musician Henry Kaleialoha Allen. Allen was one of the original performers for the local radio program “Hawaii Calls”, playing on the show for over 60 years, and one of the first Hawaiian steel guitarists.
The festivities throughout the weekend include performances, workshops, lessons, and even a class on building your own steel guitar, complete with building kits! Perhaps the most unique part about the entire festival is the fact that performers are not attending to perform solely on stage. Looking around the hotel in years past, music fans were able to enjoy impromptu jam sessions with local favorites including Kaleialoha himself.

The weekend events are free, however, Thursday night’s VIP Reception Party comes with a $150.00 ticket. The ticket price includes food, cocktails, individual photo sessions, and gift bags for all attendees. The party will be hosted by Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa and his wife, Ann.
Leading up to Sunday’s free performances, Hawaiian crafts, activities, and lessons fill your day, including traditional Hawaiian Hula, lei making, Hawaiian tattoo, and a display of instruments, accessories, books, and music. An assortment of guitars and ukuleles will also be for sale, from local musicians and stores.
Hope to see you at the Hawaii Steel Guitar Festival. We’d love to hear your stories and experiences from the festival, and your trip to Hawaii
