Eat The Street Event: Eat Local

This Friday, Septermber 30, join a host of local food trucks for another great Eat the Street event! With almost 40 vendors attending you’re sure to find something to spike your interest. As a part of a growing trend in the nation, and especially in Hawaii, organizers at streetgrindz.com have teamed up with Kanu Hawaii for this events theme, Eat Local. Kanu Hawaii challenges local residents to eat only local food for one month. As a way to increase knowledge of eating locally, and supporting small locally owned operations they have asked the each of the vendors to produce a dish that includes a locally grown or raised ingredient. Nowhere else in the nation is this issue as pressing as here in Hawaii, whose food supply is largely dependent upon the mainland. There are four trucks making their Eat the Street debut on Friday, Lava wok, The Curb, Ono Steak, and Otsuji farm. As the event grows in popularity expect to see more vendors and more events. Streetgrindz.com has hosted many other Eat The Street events with some great themes, which include Pig Out!, Garlic, and Spicy. There have been 9 events; this Friday’s being the 10th. Come out this week to join a host of people in enjoying some of Oahu’s great food trucks, but if you can’t make it you can find the Streetgrindz Iphone App, available in the app store for free. It’s called Find Streetgrindz, and this app will make it a breeze to find the food truck nearest you, or to locate your favorite truck on the island so you can hunt it down for some great grinds! The event will be held at 555 South Street in Kaka’ako and there will be on-site, as well as street parking available for attendees. Admission is free to this event.
