Bum Rush Tour Comes to Hawaii

A truly unique contest has been started by a company called Sun Bum. Out of Cocoa Beach, Florida comes a company with a dedication to fun in the sun while being responsible and protecting yourself from the harmful effects of prolonged exposure to UV rays. The company began in 2010 with a strong dedication to their high quality sun care products which the founders entrust to use on their very own kids, spouses, and friends. Last year Sun Bum began a series of surf competitions which they called the Bum Rush Tour.

What is the Bum Rush Tour?

The Bum Rush Tour is a truly unique type of surf competition that Sun Bum has created. Their contest runs at unannounced breaks, at unannounced times, with no sign ups. They pull up to a surf break, and decide to have a competition. The cool thing is the surfers competing don’t even know they are in a contest. The judges sit back and watch for 15 minutes, then decide a winner at the end. The winner is then awarded the title to the contest and a check for $1,000. In 2011 Sun Bum hosted 9 Bum Rush Tour surf Competitions, and they started 2012 off in Hale’iwa, on the North Shore of Hawaii.

Starting off 2012

Hale’iwa was a great place to start their 2012 series, and on January 2, 2012 Bum Rush Tour awarded its first prize of $1,000 to Kai Matsumoto, a North Shore, Oahu local. Kai told the crew at Bum Rush Tours “I had no idea what was going on, Kawika told me to paddle in, and that I won a thousand bucks. I didn’t even know what it was for. I am so psyched right now.” He plans to save his check for college, a wise decision, and gave his sponsors – Mom and Dad – a shout out for being so supportive.
