APEC Dinner to be Held in Waikiki Hotel says White House

Waikiki, Hawaii, July 28 (DHN) – The APEC reception and dinner will be held at the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki on November 12. The 817-room Hale Koa Hotel was built back in 1975. Featuring two towers, this oceanfront hotel is located at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki and is for the exclusive use of military members and their families. The White House also announced that the biggest, and final, meeting of the weeklong event will be held at the JW Marriott Ihilani out at the Ko Olina Resort. Located on the Westside of the island, the Ihilani Resort is 25 miles away from Waikiki. Ihilani Resort, which opened in 1992, is a 387-room luxury oceanfront hotel that features 4 man-made lagoons. APEC Leaders’ Week is being held from November 7th through the 13th. The conference is forecasted to bring over 20,000 attendees to Oahu and generate $120 million in the local economy. Honolulu, Waikiki and Ko Olina will be thrust into the international spotlight as the 21 leaders of the APEC nations meet to further trade across the Pacific. The conference will be documented by an estimated 2,000 journalists who will be on Oahu to cover the event.

Hawaii Convention Center

The 2011 APEC conference will be held primarily at the Hawaii Convention Center. Located at the gateway to Waikiki, the Hawaii Convention Center is on the corner of Kalakaua Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard. LMN Architects out of Seattle designed the Hawaii Convention Center, and the building opened in 1998. The cost of the convention center was $200 million dollars. Fans of the hit television show Lost will recognize the Hawaii Convention Center. The center was used to portray Sydney International Airport during the six seasons of the show.
