Learn more about Ala Moana Beach Park

As one of the most easily accessible beaches in Honolulu, the Ala Moana Beach Park attracts hundreds of people everyday, from tourists to locals, from joggers to surfers.

The beach park is the perfect place to unwind. Magic Island, the grassy, palm tree-laden park located at the southwest side of the beach park, offers a cool escape and plenty of opportunities to picnic, nap, jog, or simply breathe in the fresh air!

The Ala Moana Beach Park is also home to the annual Lantern Floating Ceremony, where thousands of people light candles and let them float on the water in memory of their loved ones.

History

Ala Moana Beach Park was created in the 1950s by the Dillingham Dredging Company, which needed a place to dispose sand and earth.
