Halloween is just a few short days away. Spending the 31st here on the island of Oahu gives you lots of ways to get your costumed fun on. For the serious Halloween enthusiast, check out our suggestions and create a night full of Hawaiian Halloween memories that you will surely remember for years to come.
Trick-or-treating is one classic option for the young and young at heart. If serious trick-or-treating is on your agenda, consider making your way north of Waikiki into Manoa Valley. This quiet and secure area of the island ought to provide an excellent place to safely go door-to-door.
If you’re not exactly looking to enjoy Halloween this way, you could always head into Waikiki and experience a Halloween block party the likes of which you won’t soon forget. Standing shoulder to shoulder with thousands of Halloween enthusiasts as you make your way around Waikiki is an exciting way to spend a unique night. This is a great place to show off your Halloween attire or simply witness the spectacular and shocking costumes that other people will undoubtedly be wearing.
Another tried-and-true option for enjoying a Halloween to remember, is visiting one of the many haunted houses that will be operating here on Oahu. Some options include:
Nightmares Live
Experience a self described “living horror movie” in this impressive production that brings all your favorite scary movie characters back to scare you in real life. You’ll see Jason Voorhees and Freddie Kruger in real 3d complete with special effects and a spooky setting that are sure to make your heart jump.

Haunted Plantation
This frightful experience will have you shaking in your shoes as you make your way across a haunted plantation into an equally haunted house. With over forty actors creeping around the grounds, it’s no wonder this location was listed as the number six place among the “top 10 haunts that will scare the bejezus out of you in America.” This spot is not for the faint of heart, and children under thirteen are not permitted and children thirteen to fifteen must be accompanied by an adult.

The Haunted Village
Open for one night only, this production is run by the Windward Community College, and is more a Halloween extravaganza than a mere haunted house. Face painting, pumpkin carving and spooky situations make this a great choice for the whole family. (Open 10/29 only. 45-720 Keaahala Rd, Kaneohe)
