Remembering Heroes

Doris Miller
Doris Miller is proudly remembered as a hero of Pearl Harbor, for his role in the December 7, 1941 attacks. During the attacks, Miller instinctively manned a 50-calier machine gun, with which he had no formal training, and bravely defended Pearl Harbor from the aerial assault of Japanese fighters.

He was the heavyweight boxing champion on board the USS West Virginia an received the Navy Cross for her bravery during the attacks, awarded to him by the Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.
